Even children know that sugar can cause tooth decay.  There are certain bacteria in your mouth, particularly Streptococcimutans, that ferment various sugars and starches (complex sugars) producing acids.  These acids, in turn, eat through the enamel of your teeth, causing a decayed spot or cavity.  For a long time, scientists have searched to find alternative sweeteners that are not fermentable by bacteria and, hence, do not cause cavities.  Artificial sweeteners were thought to be helpful in this regard.  Unfortunately these artificial sweeteners can casue numerous health problems which make them undesirable.
Stevia is ideal for use as a sweetener when oral health and overall health is a concern.  Numerous clinical trials have proven that stevia, and its sweetening compnents are non-fermentable and can not cause cavities.  In fact stevia contains components which are antibacterial and help to fight the bacteria which cause cavities and gingivitis (gum disease).
Unlike artifical sweetenrs which may or may not be non fermentable, stevia is non-fermentable and has no negative side effects.  Stevia is the only healthy sweetener known.  It causes no health problems at all and is safe for everyone including children, the elderly, diabetics, hypoglycemics and cardiac patients.  So go ahead and try integrating stevia into your daily routine as well as in your cooking and baking.  There are various forms of stevia available to suit your individual needs.
